Following their underground leadership training and development program at the Caverns, Progression team members Josh Morris and Mario Wild went underground for some TAG caving.
TAG (Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia) caving is special and a center of caving activity for the USA with thousands of spectacular caves in the area.
They connected with Angela Morgan, an experienced caver who spent a year caving in Chiang Mai in 2013. Angela is a good friend and mentor to the team and introduced Josh and Mario to local cavers Andy Zellner, Beth Santoro, and Page Ashwell who gave them an incredible tour of three outstanding caves in the area: Unterstein, Neversink and Limrock Blowhole. TAG didn’t disappoint.
On the evening of 13 November, Josh and Mario also presented about the Thai Cave Rescue to the Huntsville Grotto at the NSS national headquarters. It was a special experience to share time with so many eager cavers and to learn about how caves are managed in the area. Josh and Mario are presenting about their trip to Thai officials as cave management plans are being developed throughout the country.
The progression team has certainly caught the TAG bug and is already planning their next trip underground.
